Max Schuchart was active in various capacities within the Dutch literary world, but it is as a translator that he has left the greatest mark, in particular as the translator of a single genre, a single body of work, or perhaps even a single work, which has connected and continues to connect many generations: J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (Dutch title: In de ban van de ring).
